When Australian mommy blogger Meet Israeli mommy blogger – A tribute to the imperfct mom blog

2

What’s the difference between Israeli and Australian mommy?

Well,

Beside the fact that the Australian mom is living in Australia, and she is a Christian and the Israeli is Jewish, all the other things are quite the same.

I met Kelly de-vries, an Australian mommy blogger from the blog “The Imperfect Mum“.

Kelly came to visit Israel as a part of a beautiful project called “vibe Israel” which is a foundation that connect between influencers bloggers from around the world and influencers and bloggers  from Israel in order to show the world another  side of the Israeli life and places and to tell how Israel is really like.

You must read the post that Kelly wrote after her visit – Is Israel safe?

It made me laugh.
A lot.

Vibe Israel  hooked me up with Kelly, who is a 34 years old mom of 4 beautiful kids, and she is a co-writer at the imperfect mom blog that talks about parenting and empowering woman. She is at my age and got 4 kids and we got some great click between us 🙂

We had a great time together.

Actually we started chatting through emails and Facebook before she arrived to Israel and I asked her what she wants us to do and if there’s something that she wants to see.

They told us (vibe team) to show her how a day in Israeli mom’s life looks like with the kids,
but since we had limited time together and considering the fact that I got 3 hyperactive kids,
if we will spend the time with them we won’t be able to talk much.

So we decided on a calm day in Tel Aviv.

We met at google office it Tel aviv, with all the israeli and foreign bloggers, and then we had about 5 hours to spend together.

Mommies date!

We joined Liat Vardi Bar, a good friend of mine and also a mommy blogger  from the blog “bling bling” that was connected with the American blogger – Jamie Lynn Grumet from the blog “I’m not the babysitter“.

Since Jamie lynn’s blog talks also about breastfeeding as something natural and got a lot of attention while a picture of her breastfeeding her 4 year old son got published on TIME Magazine. She’s defenetly one of the fun, collest, happy and Joyful mommy I got to know.

We went to eat lunch with them in some great oriental restaurant in Jaffa port.

After that, we got separated, and me and Kelly decided to go to Tel Aviv port and to sit and talk quietly in some coffe shop.

While we were driving on the Yarkon Boulevard near the beach,
I’ve noticed that Kelly is quite excited from the beach and the Boardwalk of Tel Aviv.

2 ladys on the beach. wer’e not mom’s right now!

I asked her if she wants us to go sit on the beach and suddenly it seemed like the perfect thing to do and the weather was ideal for that!

And there we were – 2 mommies without kids, lying on the beach like good old friends.
It felt like we knew each other for years and felt really comfortable with each other.

It seemed like both of us needed this quiet time for an hour an a half –
just to sit on the beach, watch the sea and the waves and relax and do noting.

Me – from this too long summer holiday with 3 kids alone most of the time and another crazy week
, and Kelly – I don’t think she found the time in the past week to sit for a minute and a half and to digest the things she saw,
the people she met and to clear her mind from the intense tour she was taking part of.

I think that only busy mommies could understand this need we had  –
just to enjoy the silence without kids wondering around and calling – “mommy mommy!
It was just us.
2 women.

We are Not only moms, and sometimes we forget to take a moment in the intense day for our self.

Since I got divorced last year, I got this time out sometimes for myself, but most of the time I’m busy in cleaning, cooking, laundry, shopping, and filling up missing sleep hours.

I’ll try to remember to take friends with me on the next weekend alone and get my peaceful place again.

It’s really amazing to see how a mom from the other side of the world is dealing with the same things I’m dealing with.

The same parenting conflicts and the kids are behaving exactly the same although the mentality and the environment are different.

At some point while we were sitting on the beach and sharing our thoughts,
some gorgeous blond lady approaches us and asks Kelly politely – are you ozzi?

And Kelly said right away “of course!”

The lady said she couldn’t miss the familiar accent from home and she had to say hello.
Well, this girl is married to an Israeli guy who lives in Australia and we all started to have an interesting talk
about the differences between our cultures.
One of them was about how passionate the Israelis are and how we are angry and demanding and even rude sometimes,
but that’s part of our charm.
It’s like someone is yelling and screaming in order to get what he wants and you’re not quite sure if you are afraid of him or liking him.

They said that in Australia the people are calmer and restrained with their emotions unlike the Israeli people
and maybe they can learn a bit from us.

It made me think about my trip to Thailand in my honeymoon when we saw Israeli people hanging around in big groups
and being friendly and noisy.
I think that this cultural mix is what’s makes the Israeli people and country so unique.

It’s a massive collection of cultures and religions all in one small country called Israel which located
in the middle of the world and influenced from many countries and continents.

Kelly asked me what Israeli food is like and what I love to cook,
and I told her that the Israeli kitchen got so many influences from Asia, Europe, America, Italy, France, morocco, Iraq and many more places.

We make everything and got a big variety of tastes and smells.
I think that after having the opportunity to share time with Kelly,
I realized we got so much variety of everything!

I mean, it’s quite small country, you can drive from the north to the south in few hours and still,
you got so much to see with beautiful beaches, deserts, forests, urban cities,
world wonder, old cultural places, holy places, malls, kibbutz and we sure got a lot to see here!

I think that only now I realize how lucky I am to be born and live here in this country in this time.

Me and Liat Vardi bar - Bling Bling
Mommy bloggers from Israel – Helie Gursoy 2BMommy and Liat Vardi bar – Bling Bling

My mom and dad also were born here, but my grandparents from my mother side are from Iraq,
and my grandparent’s from my father’s side are from turkey.

My kid’s father’s roots are also from turkey (it wasn’t planned!)
so my kids got 3/4 quarters of Turkish genes and 1/4 quarter of Iraqi  genes.

And I’m cooking Chinese, American, Italian, Iraqi, Moroccan and oriental food.

It’s quite crazy when you get to think about it..

So I’m very grateful for this opportunity to spend some time with Kelly and I wish we could spend some more time together but she had a very busy and intense schedule with the other bloggers in order to see as much as possible from Israel’s places and people.

This is the post Kelly wrote about The Israeli mommies she met here

I’m quite sure that I will keep in touch with Kelly as much as two busy moms can do.

I will mention it again – she’s got 4 kids(!) and she seems like one of the most relaxed and joyful people I’ve met..

It’s been honor and pleasure to meet her and I really hope to get the chance to visit her back in Australia..
